Meet our active companions from Fulia, a well-known village in West Bengal celebrated for its authentic handwoven Jamdani sarees. We had the opportunity to meet them during our journey with Kovash. For over 10 to 12 years, they have devoted their time and patience to this timeless weaving tradition, a craft inherited directly from their forefathers. This village itself is a wonder, where every corner reflects a sense of magic, offering comfort and elegance carried through generations.
Weaving a Jamdani saree involves a meticulous weft technique using high-count cotton threads, zari, and intricate motifs, each carefully crafted to create a subtle floating effect that cannot be replicated by machinery. Each saree takes nearly 3 to 4 months to complete, reflecting the depth of skill and dedication involved. Kovash is proud to collaborate with these artisans, helping bring their creations directly from the weaving hub to customers, blending modern design with traditional heritage while supporting economic independence and stability within the artisan community.
She is a valued member of the Kovash family from the beautiful and culturally rich Mayurbhanj region of Odisha, a place where art breathes through every alternate household. Known as the homeland of Sabai grass, this region nurtures a unique natural resource that is harvested, sun-dried, coloured, and skillfully twisted into a variety of handcrafted products such as bags, baskets, and trays.
For over eight years, she has been deeply involved in this Sabai craft tradition, building a small collective of women who come together to transform their inherited skills into meaningful creations. Each product they weave carries their emotions, patience, and continuous effort to support their families. Kovash is proud to uplift their craftsmanship by showcasing their work on its platform, celebrating women empowerment while ensuring the economic growth and preservation of this timeless art form.
